Paris-InvalidesWhen you hear the word “Paris”, the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, and Notre Dame instantly come to mind.  And they should!  These are some of the most iconic sights in the City of Light.  And for me, no visit to Paris would be complete without at least a walk by all of the above.

wild and scenic rogue riverBeing an Oregonian for a couple of decades I have heard the phrase “the wild and scenic Rogue River is my favorite river to raft” more than a few times.  But what makes it so special?  The typical answers included comments like: “dependably gorgeous summer weather, lush scenery,

How to Spend 3 Magical Days in the Faroe Islands

Klaksvik, Faroe IslandsAn archipelago of eighteen islands between Iceland and England, with strong political ties to Denmark, the Faroe Islands charmed me through and through.  The steep snow dusted mountains, the countless roaming sheep, the candy cane colored homes, the Faroese people, the strong relationship to the wind and water.  I found that the Faroe Islands were full of sweet,

Rafting the Deschutes

Rafting the DeschutesAug. 15: For the last few years, I have been part of an annual event with some friends rafting the Deschutes River, in Central Oregon.  What draws people there?  Its proximity to Bend, expansive high desert scenery, and dependably hot summers all make it a very appealing destination.

Exploring Ria Formosa

Oct. 19:  Well, travel can wear you down, or at least I should say it can wear me down.  Despite it being the end of summer weather, I have managed to get a bit of a cold.  But I wasn’t going to let something like that stop me.

Olympic Peninsula to Victoria

Sep. 2 and 3:  I am now settled into a charming loft on Yates Street in Victoria, British Columbia.  It took a lot to get here from my home in Eugene, Oregon.  Departing on Friday afternoon of Labor Day was not ideal, but it was what worked in mine and Michael’s schedule,

Le Bernardin and Central Park

Aug. 11:  Even two days in NYC is not anywhere near enough.  It’s a true statement even taking into account that I go there regularly so my accumulated NYC time is pretty substantial.  Yet NYC, like Paris, is one of those places that people, including myself, keep going back to again and again and again.

Barra de Potosi

I woke up early and wanted to do laundry so I didn’t get to the village of Barra de Potosi, my next destination, with sandy items filling my backpack.  I found una lavendería  downtown, got the process started and I headed to the Mercado where I got some fruit and a smoothie and admired the usual hustle and bustle.

The Sun Sets in Paris — Oct 19

In doing Paris research months ago, I got completely intrigued by a day in the Eiffel Tower district and western Paris. We had gone to eat in the Eiffel Tower last year, which was an incredible experience, but it was cold and rainy, and so we didn’t really get to hang out and soak up the Eiffel Tower experience to the fullest.

Amsterdam & Anne Frank Huis — Oct 20

Now I sit at Cocomama, an upscale hostel/hotel in Amsterdam, converted from a brothel 10 years ago.

Dan and I said our goodbyes early in the morning; he was off to the States (he’s probably going to land in San Francisco in the next couple of hours);
