Exploring Anchorage — Jan 31

It’s 10am and I am watching the sun peek over the Chugach Mountains.  It’s a sight I could get used to, this is for sure.  Dan wanted to go for a vigorous morning walk and I am catching up on blogging.  Always a challenge to write when traveling, as there is more adventuring to be had.

Self Care & Fabulous Dinner — Feb 1

Well, it’s our last night at the regal Captain Cook hotel.  The Anchorage component of the Alaskan adventure is drawing to a close.  It’s been fun, but as with travel and with life, we must be moving on.  We started our day by hitting the Athletic Club to get some real exercise in.

Arriving in Fairbanks — Feb 2

Now I am in a most wonderful cabin about six miles outside of Fairbanks.  I knew it would be special from the pictures I saw online as well as from all the raving Airbnb reviews.  And it is and it deserves further praise, but let me start at the beginning of the day.

Dog Sledding & Snowshoeing — Feb 3

Nestling in the cabin after another day in the cold is a most inviting experience.  We have this theme going on in the temperate regions, but it’s more pronounced this far north.  The outside is colder, the inside is warmer, and the people are more extreme as well.

We woke up late because it was still dark and also,

Chena Hot Springs — Feb 4

It’s amazing how wiped out we are, but I guess a day of hiking, getting cold, and soaking in 104 degree water can do that to you.  I sat back at the cabin we’ve been calling home for a few nights, remarking how much living I fit into five hours today.

Night Time Sledding — Feb 5

I was itching for some yoga, Dan was not quite itching as strongly as me, but he was a willing participant.  I found a place online called Heartstream Yoga and Donna’s bio looked varied and eclectic and so it was a go.  The studio was located near the Fred Meyer’s and off we went.

Yukon Quest — Feb 6

I am back in Eugene and in a relative sense, sweating like a pig, since it’s 40 degrees here.

Yesterday we woke up early and cleaned the cabin and got ready to roll out to the Yukon Quest, the annual 1,000 international sled dog race.

Owyhee Canyon — Boise to Jordan Valley

The Basque Hotel, not to be missed. You simply haven’t lived, until you have been at the Basque Hotel. And I lay here late at night, so happy to be in a comfortable bed.  Where is the Basque Hotel you ask? France or Spain, in the Pyrenees?  No actually, it’s in the town of Jordan Valley (JV),

Pillars of Rome and JV — Jun 16

I am at the Basque Hotel tonight and it is already feeling like home.

We woke up and asked the Shell attendant about the internet cafe in JV, and he directed us to JV Cafe. We went over to the café thinking we would order something light to eat to justify our use of the internet and catch up on email.

Coffeepot Crater & Birch Creek — Jun 17

We are in Caldwell, Idaho – about 30 miles outside of Boise. I am sitting here wondering if I can find enough superlatives and adjectives to do our day and the scenery we steeped ourselves in, justice. But I will give it my best shot.

If we moved to JV,
